How much does a private car tour from Tokyo cost?
A full day of eight hours in Tokyo, Yokohama or Kamakura is ¥126,000 for the Standard class, a Toyota Alphard. A ten hour day to Mount Fuji, Hakone or Nikko is ¥157,500. The price is for the car, not per person, and it includes the chauffeur, expressway tolls, parking and fuel.
What is included in the price?
The vehicle for the whole day, a professional chauffeur who speaks your language, expressway tolls, parking and fuel. Nothing is collected from you in the car. Meals, entrance fees and tickets along the way are the only things you pay yourself.
Which vehicles are available for a private tour?
The Toyota Alphard for up to four guests, the Toyota Hiace or GranAce for up to nine, and the Mercedes Benz S 500 for two. The larger cars are ¥134,500 for eight hours and ¥168,000 for ten, the Mercedes ¥151,500 and ¥189,000.
Is a private car better than the train for a day trip?
Inside Tokyo the train is faster for a single stop. For a day out to Fuji, Hakone or Nikko with three or four stops, a private car is the only way to see them all in one day without timetables, and the cost is shared across the group rather than paid per head.
Can the itinerary change on the day?
Yes. The day is yours, not a fixed route. If the weather hides Mount Fuji the chauffeur reorders the stops around the forecast, and if you fall in love with a place you stay longer. Nothing is charged for changing your mind.
How far in advance should I book?
A few days is enough for most dates. Weekends in autumn and the weeks around New Year fill early, and at short notice the only cars left are often partner vehicles at a premium, so booking ahead is also the cheaper choice.
